Overview

AB ePaper by AB Infotech: Digital Newspaper Publishing Software

A story starts on the front page and continues on page seven. In print, the reader knows to turn to page seven. Online, the reader should be able to click the story and see both sections together. AB ePaper lets publishers connect those sections while keeping the familiar layout of the printed newspaper.
Developed by AB Infotech, AB ePaper gives daily, weekly, and regional newspapers a place to publish editions, turn page layouts into clickable stories, and maintain a searchable archive. Readers can browse the full paper, open individual reports, and share or save them.

Create, review, and publish editions

Editors can create an edition with a publication date, title, and category, then add pages from images or supported PDF files. The upload screen shows progress, while thumbnails and reader previews are prepared in the background.
Publish an edition immediately or schedule it for later. Organize regular issues, special editions, and supplements, and feature selected editions or categories on the site.
Before publishing, the edition review screen helps editors spot missing images, skipped or duplicate page numbers, and invalid story links. Staff can check processing status and retry failed page preparation. Deleted editions can be restored from the trash for further editing.

Turn printed pages into clickable stories

With the Area Map editor, staff draw a box around a story on the newspaper page. When a reader clicks that area, the story opens separately. If it continues elsewhere in the issue, staff can use the Next Map ID to connect the sections in reading order. The editor warns when a continuation is already linked to another story.
Each story gets its own web address, so a reader can share an individual report without sending someone to find it in the full edition. Publishers can also select a masthead crop for an edition. Story images display that masthead, the edition date, and a divider. When no masthead is set, the site logo appears above the date and divider.

Give readers a familiar newspaper experience

Readers can jump between pages using thumbnails or the page selector. On desktop, the Split Reader theme displays the newspaper page and the selected story side by side. On mobile, readers can open a story and return to the same newspaper page. Zoom controls help readers make out smaller print.
The archive lets readers open an issue by publication date and search for editions or stories. When migrating from an older ePaper system, existing story links can be preserved if the original records and URLs are mapped during migration.

Share stories, download JPGs, and print on A4

A shared story link can show the headline, publication details, and an image of the first story section on platforms that support link previews. Readers who open the link can see the full story, including its connected sections.
Story image downloads use JPG to reduce file size while preserving the composed layout and pixel dimensions. In one test with a 1200 × 4644 story image, the download went from a 4.3 MiB PNG to a 1.05 MiB JPG at the same resolution. Actual file size varies with the story.
Printing uses a single composite image of the story. The image scales proportionally to fit one A4 sheet, so longer stories print at a smaller scale.

Manage branding, advertising, and SEO

Publication branding lets staff configure the logo, favicon, theme, footer links, editor and publisher names, office address, and contact details.
Responsive ad placements support a banner and destination link. A configured Google AdSense slot can fill the placement when a custom banner is unavailable.
Search and social settings include page metadata, canonical URLs, XML sitemaps, RSS, and social previews.
Integrations include Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console verification, Facebook App ID, and Google AdSense.
Reader messages can be managed in the admin panel. With SMTP configured, staff can reply from the panel.

Manage editorial access and track readership

Assign roles and permissions for editorial, publishing, and administrative work. The User Activity log records who created, edited, published, or deleted an edition and when the action occurred. It also records sign-in activity. Account controls include multi-factor authentication and ending existing sessions after a password change.
Reader statistics cover 7-, 30-, and 90-day periods. Publishers can see reading trends, popular editions, and frequently opened stories. Share-button clicks are tracked separately, giving editors a measure of how often readers choose to share a report.

Keep image delivery and storage under control

The reader uses smaller thumbnails and WebP previews for browsing. The larger print image loads when needed. Previews for recent editions can be prepared in the background after publication or editing. For archived issues, story images are generated as readers request them.
The cache can be configured with a maximum size and a minimum amount of free disk space. Expired cached images are cleaned up automatically. Larger downloads use time-limited links, and heavy download requests from known crawlers can be restricted.
AB ePaper brings the daily publishing workflow and the newspaper archive together. Editors can upload an issue, connect stories that continue across pages, and schedule publication. Readers can open the latest paper, find an older issue by date, or go straight to a report someone shared with them.
